Things are hotting up in Maharashtra. State education minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil has managed to get the government to push through a resolution reserving 90% of the state's junior college seats for SSC students, reports The Times of India. Parents of SSC students are ecstatic, adds the Indian Express, while those with children in ICSE and CBSE schools are up in arms and on the verge of launching a legal challenge to the resolution, according to DNA. Given that the state's high court ruled just last year that the proposed percentile system was unfair and warned the state against pushing through such legislation "with undue haste," it's unlikely that the quota will withstand a legal challenge.
