It all started with a photo shoot for some Italian designers. When the pictures came, my team loved them so much, they wanted to have them around all the time. That's when we realised that eye candy like this should be made accessible to people all year-round. And voila! The idea for the calendar was born.

Heating Up March

So it was decided. We would design our own customised, limited edition calendar. Unlike other calendars, this one starts in the new financial year (March 2009) and not with January. The fact that my father is a chief commissioner with the income tax department is just a coincidence! I hope my sexy photos offer some relief from the dark clouds of recession. As it happens, my birthday is also in March. But that too, is incidental.

Swimsuit Shoot: Go Backstage

Behind the scenes of a swimsuit calendar is not as glamorous, but given that I am such a stickler for perfection, everything went seamlessly. To the sound of blaring Sade songs, a team of experts fussed over me, my curls, my lip gloss. High heels, saucy bikinis, body oil and one very excited photographer.. I'm sure you get the picture!

Although I'm super focused while working, we did have a few light moments during the shoot. I recall this one funny incident when I went to the set after a session of fencing (a sword fight workout). My arm had a nasty scar which my team insisted was a hickey, and teased me about it all day. They had a good laugh about it!

My Favourite Shot

It has to be the one in which I'm sporting a diamond encrusted bra. This photograph has a great story to go with it. Originally, a flowy sari was supposed to be draped over the diamond bra. The sari, however, never reached the shoot, so I just pulled out one of my basic black tube tops and wore it as a skirt. This shot turned out to be one of the master pictures of the calendar. I guess being spontaneous works for me! We also ran a poll for the favourite snapshot in the calendar and this image won hands down!

Billboard Controversy

We'd booked about nine billboards from Marine Drive to Lokhandwala displaying our artwork. However the billboards at Marine Drive were pulled down by the license commissioner without any explanation. After prodding further, they said the pictures were too sensual. It was funny, considering the same billboards stood sans any interference in the suburbs. But soon, the issue was sorted, and the billboards were back up!

The response for the calendar has been overwhelming; feedback has been pouring in from Europe, America, South East Asia, Middle East, Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand!
